As one of the districts in the Structure Plan of the West Jasper Place Area, Aldergrove was built during the 1970s and 1980s. During that time, as neighbourhood units were built and constructed to make more productive land use by allowing for more multi-family development and subdividing smaller lots, Aldergrove follows a typical growth strategy.

This technique has been used to preserve farmland, conserve resources and ensure an adequate supply of services. An essential part of the area, multi-family sites are clustered along the collector roads and around the school and shopping facilities. Single-detached homes dominate the western part of the neighbourhood.
